Area 62 Contest

This Friday is the Area 62 Contest. It should be an excellent evening!

Upcoming Week

The upcoming week looks to be busy and productive. I am judging at 2 contests and have a 7am Area Governor visit. I can’t say that I am relishing the early morning endeavor, but I am very much looking forward to the contests. In other news, I am rather stoked that I have a school interested in me running a Youth Leadership program for their students in November and December. Sharing my speaking passion with the students will be an exciting project for me and a fantastic learning experience for them.

Why on earth am I posting vegetables?

It seems this week has gotten very full and I’ll need all the energy I can get!

  • Monday: Speech at HNTM, Education at SRTM
  • Tuesday: Training in Waterloo
  • Wednesday: SRTM Executive Meeting
  • Thursday: RCTM Executive Meeting
  • Friday: Do not think about Toastmasters!

Royal City Toastmasters Contest

Organizing a contest is challenging when:

  • You don’t have enough competitors
  • You don’t have enough volunteers

Despite my initial fears, the Royal City International Speech / Evaluation contest was a success.

With some gentle prodding, contestants stepped forward. With some gentle bribing persuading, I was able to recruit an adequate number of volunteers to fill the roles required for a successful contest. Speaking comes easy to me, but I have been less likely to volunteer for organization roles that require a large degree of delegating. It was an excellent experience and I’m looking forward to taking on larger roles in the future… Area Governor, for example.
